Announce and submit a website to search engines
Author: Manish Shrivastava
A good design and user-friendliness do not guarantee that
popular search engines will see a website. Sear
ch engine optimization companies across the world provide
different techniques to make websites visible to search engines.
While the techniques may vary for different Internet search
engine optimization experts, the basic concept of announcing the
website is almost same everywhere.
Following basic points may be considered to make a website
visible to search engines:
Submit the website to search engines All popular search engines
provide specific URLs for site submission. Site submission is a
free process and can easily be done without the help of a sear
ch engine optimization specialist. For example, to submit a
site in Google, one has to fill up just two textboxes (one for
the URL and the other for a short description). Google says that
it tries to index as many pages as possible every time the web
is crawled. Similarly, for Yahoo!, search engine optimization
companies submit the website in the most suitable directory. As
in MSN, one has to furnish only the site URL to get it announced.
Using META tags Most search engines check the META tags such as
description and keywords used in the web pages. The META
tags are enclosed within the element in a web
page. Same keywords should not be repeated more than five times
in Meta tags.
Page title The page title should also contain the specific
keywords used in the website. For instance, Yahoo! checks for
the keywords in the page title and description used when the
website is submitted.
Page content The content of the web pages should have a proper
frequency and reference of keywords. Most importantly, the
keywords should not be forcefully stuffed. Also, the keywords
should appear in the title, Meta tags and the page content.
Use of Canonical Link URLs To prevent Search engines from
ranking different URLs of the same page separately, a Canonical
Tag should be used so that a consolidated ranking is achieved
for that page.
